I have made it clear that for many years I have been fascinated by polar travel.
In fact, I’ve become so obsessed that now Adventure Guidespends about half of each year at sea in Antarctica and the Arctic. And I’m not slowing down anytime soon. I’ve already started a three-month sailing season, Canadian Adventure This summer, they will travel to the Arctic regions of Canada and Greenland.
These polar regions are virtually inaccessible. The easiest and most efficient way to visit is on an expedition ship. Sea ice isolates the Arctic from the outside world for much of the year. Only during the summer months does the ice melt enough for people to enter. Most people travel by small plane, boat, or snowmobile (in winter). Personally, I find this sense of isolation fascinating.
Here, whales swim all around us, polar bears peek out from behind the sea ice, and colorful communities give us the most incredible welcome. The Arctic is vast, wild, and unpredictable. It makes your heart race.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve been doing for years, blogging, writing, and taking photos. I’ve created a career out of nothing, making money traveling the world and writing. But to be honest, since the pandemic started, I’ve felt a bit disappointed. I’m tired of being busy. I’m tired of the pointless competition. It’s not good for my mind space or my creativity.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change anything about my past. But I think I have grown and embarked on a new path that I am eager to explore. To boot.
Visiting the Arctic and writing about it wasn’t enough for me. Deep down, I longed to be part of a team, a community again. Canadian Adventure It feels like family. Owned and operated by three siblings (started by their father, uncle, and friend), you feel an unparalleled connection the moment you step on board. The same guides always come back year after year – it feels like going to summer camp and reuniting with all your friends. The same goes for the passengers.
On most trips, half of the passengers are returning customers because they have flown AC before. I mean, the loyalty is unimaginable.
I know it sounds cheesy, but working in the Arctic gives me a sense of fulfillment I never knew I had. It’s hard work, but it’s so worth it. I feel like I belong here. I know this place so well, and I love sharing it with others.
Whether I was sailing around skyscraper-sized icebergs in an inflatable dinghy, looking for wildlife through binoculars on the bridge, or listening to live music at night as we continued on to our next destination, I had a blast. Last year alone, I saw 20 Polar Bearincluding a mother and calf eating a beluga. I walked on sea ice, following in Franklin’s footsteps on Beech Island, and fell asleep under the dancing northern lights in Greenland. I mean, come on!
Over the past year, I have been thinking about what I would like to do with my career, and the answer always came up the same: polar travel. So, I decided to try something new. In addition to continuing to write and share travel stories, I will also start selling polar travel trips.

To be honest, I was already doing this kind of thing; this just made it a little more practical and official. It was really important for me to be honest about this. Changing the direction of my income means I can step back from the influencer world and focus on the things I actually love. It will give me the freedom to be creative, play, and have fun again. It will also give me the freedom to never shut up about what I love about Polar. Sorry, I’m not sorry.
I promise not to be bothered by it either.
