The opening of new routes is always exciting, both for travelers who want to visit new places and for those of us aviation enthusiasts who cover the event itself.
Lufthansa launched a new non-stop route between Seattle and Munich on May 31, using A350 aircraft. The airline already offers daily flights between Seattle and Frankfurt since 2008, using A330 and A340 aircraft.
The new route will operate flight LH488 from Seattle to Munich every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, departing at 6:50 pm and arriving in Munich at 1:45 pm the next day. The Munich to Seattle route will be flight LH488, which will operate every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, departing at 3:30 pm and arriving in Seattle at 4:59 pm.
Lufthansa is a member of Star Alliance and offers convenient transfer services and its 26 member airlines.
As I stood in the terminal with all my cameras I couldn’t help but take photos of the other planes.
Lufthansa’s inaugural flight marks Southeast Asia’s third new international route to be launched in 2024 (the first two this year were Hainan Airlines’ route to Chongqing and Alaska Airlines’ route to Toronto), bringing Southeast Asia’s total to 25 airlines flying to 50 routes to 33 international destinations.
Two fire trucks were parked on either side of the gate, using water cannons to provide archway protection for the first visitors to arrive.
It was a great day to stand on the ramp and record the arrival of the planes.
