Mars Target

Mars Target (Destination Mars The first and currently only full-scale roller coaster built in France Futuroscope Theme Park.

The coaster is a themed experience designed to make riders feel as if they are undergoing rigorous astronaut training before a mission to Mars.

Much of the story takes place in the ride’s immersive queue line, which moves through several rooms and scenes related to the upcoming mission, culminating in a space station where everything appears to be upside down due to the loss of gravity.

Once you’re on the coaster, the train passes through a small, but not particularly nice, indoor dark ride area before moving outside to the first of two fairly quiet, tire-propelled launches. It’s a very family-friendly ride, keeping speeds low over a series of gentle hills and turns, and only reaching moderate speeds.

The plot finally comes to an end when the train re-enters the Objectif Mars ride building, where the coaster connects to a vertical drop track, drops 5 meters, and then returns to the main station.

Initially, the ride’s carriages were to rotate, but this feature was disabled following a lithium battery fire in April 2023. While this was undoubtedly the right decision for safety reasons, it somewhat degraded the ride experience: the carriages no longer faced the scene from the initial previews, and the roller coaster portion was significantly less thrilling.

Of all the amazing rides Futuroscope has to offer, Objectif Mars doesn’t live up to the hype. The coaster doesn’t live up to the wait times it’s been themed to have, and is essentially a small, very short family coaster with a drop track at the end. Still, it draws long lines.
