July 31, Kings Dominion Announces Rapterra, the Park’s Newest Coastera wing-shaped roller coaster from Swiss roller coaster design company Bolliger & Mabillard. Located in the “Jungle Extreme Adventure” area of the park, Rapterra will be the third roller coaster in this area of the park, following Tumbili and Reptilian.
Construction is already well underway on the coaster, which is scheduled to open in spring 2025. While visiting the park last weekend, we pulled out our cameras and kept our eyes “up to the sky” to capture the moment Rapterra rose.
NOTE: All photos were taken in the guest area without climbing or looking through the construction fence. Don’t be that person. Just keep your eyes on the sky, there is plenty to see.
Themed signs throughout the Jungle X area indicate the construction status of the new roller coaster.
Walking into Jungle-X, the first thing we saw was the edge of a banked track. The amount of people who walked into this area thinking the coaster was open was a little worrying.
“Wing Over” will be the first coaster element that riders will experience upon Rapterra’s launch.
There’s something special about the new roller coaster track!
The volcano’s former queue building has been converted into a “research center” by the Whey Foundation.
It’s amazing how much this coaster changes the Jungle X-Pedition footprint.
I predict this will become a popular photo spot!

We imagine this Reptilian rider is just as fascinated by the structure of Rapterra as we are!
A wider angle of the Immelmann Ring and surrounding area!
Several of the Rapterra racks are still in their “shipping boxes.”
