GLOBUS Brand Family Lighthouse Project and TREES4TRAVEL Establish New Partnership
Littleton, Colo. – September 7, 2021 – In April this year, the Globus brand family launched Lighthouse Project: An inspiring initiative to help travelers unite to reduce our carbon footprint and give generously to the greater good of the world. The Lighthouse Project is committed to becoming more rooted in its mission to create a culture of care and sustainability, with a new partnership with Trees4Travel.
As part of a new partnership with Trees4Travel, Avalon Waterways will donate tens of thousands of trees to Trees4Travel in 2022 to offset the carbon footprint of each guest on their cruise. With this initiative, the company is focusing on “Earth” – one of the three pillars of the Lighthouse Project.
The Globus family of brands’ Lighthouse Program focuses on three giving back categories:
- planet: The Globus family of brands does everything in its power to protect and preserve each destination. Protecting waterways and wildlife, and shining a light on organizations that do so.
- people: The Globus family of brands is dedicated to protecting, respecting and supporting the world’s great communities and improving the lives of the individuals within them. What is the measure of success? — The big smiles we see along the way.
- Place: The parks, palaces, museums and monuments we admire today are the result of the zealous conservation of previous generations. Through the Lighthouse Project, the Globus family of brands aims to give back so that future generations can enjoy the same beautiful places to relax, rejuvenate and reflect.
“The goal of the Lighthouse Project is to illuminate the path to a better tomorrow. Our new partnership with Trees4Travel certainly achieves that goal,” said Scott Nisbet, president and CEO of the Globus Family of Brands. “For global benefit, we are shining a light on the need and opportunity to offset travel carbon emissions by donating a tree for every Avalon Waterways guest to plant by 2022. We also invite all travelers to get involved.”
In addition to donating trees to automatically offset the carbon emissions of all Avalon Waterways cruises, guests aboard Globus, Cosmos or Monograms will have the opportunity to quickly, easily and effectively offset their flights and vacations through Trees4Travel by following a URL on each brand’s web page. The Globus family of brands has also partnered with the nonprofit to offset carbon emissions from office facilities and employee travel.
According to Trees4Travel, the first 10 years of each tree’s life will be used for tourism, while the next 140 years of each tree’s life will benefit the earth.
“It’s important to us that through travel, we explore and experience this amazing world in a thoughtful way,” said Nico Nicholas, founder of Trees4Travel. “By partnering with the Globus family of brands and their guests to plant travel trees, we are helping travelers do their part to create and maintain forests that remove CO2 from the air while restoring ecosystems. It’s a simple yet powerful act that will help reverse climate change and create a safe, sustainable planet for future generations.”
Additionally, the Globus family of brands is working to create a culture of environmental protection around the world while partnering with Trees4Travel for its offset efforts.
“Through our Lighthouse project, Avalon is setting an ambitious course to zero emissions and sustainability in every aspect of cruising,” said Nisbett. “Our fleet of state-of-the-art suites and best-in-class technology limits energy, consumption and emissions. Additionally, Avalon’s waste and recycling programs reduce our impact on the environment. And this is just the beginning. Our goal is to have our first all-electric river cruise ship by 2027.”
