Are you considering where to live in Miami? This busy city has several distinct neighborhoods, each with a very different vibe. You can live in popular South Beach, the creative Design District, business-focused Brickell, or relaxed Coconut Grove.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet, romantic getaway or one filled with exciting nightlife, here are seven of the best places to stay in Miami. Florida.
Downtown Miami
While Miami is known for its beaches, you can also experience city life here, especially in Downtown Miami. If you like the concrete jungle, this is the place for you! Many people want to live here because of its “downtown” character and bayfront features.
This Miami neighborhood has something for every type of visitor. You can shop at Bayside Marketplace, gaze at the stars at the Frost Museum of Science, or relax at one of the dozens of rooftop bars in the area. There’s also a free subway to get around.
Best Places to Stay near Downtown Miami:
Brickell
Brickell is a favorite place to stay while in Miami for business people and for those who want to enjoy the nightlife. I also find its location in the city very convenient.
Living in Brickell, you’ll be close to the city’s best restaurants and public transportation. Popular restaurants nearby include River Oyster Bar, LPM Restaurant and Bar, and Naoe. There’s also a large shopping mall here, so shopping is easy.
If you’re choosing between Downtown Miami and Brickell, I recommend Brickell. There’s too much construction going on downtown and Brickell seems more appealing. Go to the museums and rooftop bars in Downtown Miami, then come back to base and enjoy Brickell’s nightlife and fun food.
Best Places to Stay in Miami’s Brickell Neighborhood:
South Beach
TechnicallySouth Beach is located in the town of Miami Beach, not Miami. That being said, no Miami accommodation guide would be complete without this exciting neighborhood.
South Beach is home to the famous Miami Beach, the Miami Beach Boardwalk, and numerous nightclubs. Apart from that, if you want to enjoy the beach view from your hotel, South Beach is the place for you! It is the perfect place to stay for first-time visitors and those who like to spend a night on the town and are willing to pay a higher amount for it.
Best Places to Stay near South Beach Miami:
Coconut Grove
If you’re not into nightlife, consider staying in Coconut Grove. This quiet neighborhood is perfect for rest and relaxation.
While in Coconut Grove, you can stroll through the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, buy some goodies at the Coconut Grove Saturday Organic Market, and stop to smell the flowers at the Kampung Botanical Gardens. It’s the perfect place to rejuvenate in the city.
Best Places to Stay in Coconut Grove, Miami:
Design District / Midtown
Calling all art lovers! If you’re looking for an artsy getaway in the city with some high-end shopping, the Design District is the place to go. With more than 130 art galleries, frequent creative events and plenty of street art murals, this Miami neighborhood is filled with art. Plus, the Design District and its neighbor Midtown are connected to Wynwood, another artsy neighborhood in the city.
I think Wynwood is too noisy at night so it’s not an ideal place to stay, but New Town, its neighboring Edgewater district, and the Design District are all within (relative) walking distance.
Best Places to Stay in Miami Design District:
Bar Harbor
If you want a beachfront resort but don’t want to go to South Beach, consider staying in luxurious Bal Harbour. Bal Harbour is located on the same island as South Beach, just a little further north. There, you can enjoy luxurious accommodations, go shopping, and watch the sunset at Bal Harbour Beach.
Best Places to Stay near Bal Harbour in Miami:
Coral Gables
Coral Gables is a little off the beaten path compared to the other picks on this list, but it’s actually the perfect Miami neighborhood for couples and those looking for a little romance.
With its ivy-covered buildings and Mediterranean architecture, Coral Gables looks like it came straight out of a fairytale! And that’s just the beginning of this amazing neighborhood. I highly recommend renting a car in the area so you can easily travel to other parts of Miami.
You can swim in the historic Venetian Pool, stroll through the picturesque Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens, and enjoy a delicious brunch at the famous Biltmore Hotel.
